In 2022 the RES Awards went to three projects in Belgium in three categories, based on excellence and achievement in real estate project development: Campus Cadix, Eylenbosch and MULTI. We would like to congratulate the winners!

Best (Semi-)public development

Campus Cadix

Campus Cadix is a complex project for an artistic and technical secondary school. It is spread over a large new building block, a listed school building and monumental harbour sheds which were restored, converted and extended. The campus was designed coherently with respect for the neighborhood and its monumental architecture. The new building with workshops, studios and classrooms has been conceived as a sturdy workshop building. The ochre yellow brickwork pays homage to local building traditions. The renovated sheds house the refectory, print shop and gymnasiums. The centerpiece is the renovation and extension of the listed school building by Emiel van Averbeke.

Best Residential Development

With the repurposing of the iconic Eylenbosch Brewery in Dilbeek there came a long-awaited end to the structural vacancy of this former brewery along the Ninoofsesteenweg. This mixed project consists of 55 apartments, commercial spaces and a micro-brewery; this last occupant is proudly continuing the productive spirit of the brewery heydays. The new program was subtly fitted in with great care for volumetry, materialization and detailing so the characteristic industrial expression of the ensemble of buildings would remain uncompromised. Project Eylenbosch manages to reconcile modern and comfortable living with respect for durability and the preservation of built heritage.

BEST commercial Development

MULTI is a major reconversion project with considerable urban challenges: the redesignation of an emblematic, modernistic office building, the creation of a connecting link by strongly influencing the use of and opening of the plinth or base section, and its connection to the public spaces via an accessible urban platform. As an ‘Urban Platform’ and ‘Urban Connector’, the project aspires to support and strengthen the pedestrian zone. Investigations into the current performance and potential of the existing building in the areas of sustainability and transformability have led to the creation of a high performance city-living project.
